But the dreams did not stop there - the idea was born to create the first real zoo in Saaremaa, which would offer both educational and entertainment value.
SAAREMAA ZOO OPENED ITS GATES IN JUNE 2023!
Today, our zoo is home to over 50 different species and nearly 1,000 animals and birds. Our residents range from exotic species to cute domestic animals, providing guests with a diverse and exciting experience.
The zoo is in constant development - new species and additions to both educational aspects and fun attractions for children and adults are added.
Our primary and most important goal is to provide animals with the best possible life and share knowledge and respect for nature and animals with visitors.
Saaremaa Zoo is a dream that started from a modest farm and grew into something much bigger - a place where dreams come true and nature and animals always come first!
The beginning of the Saaremaa Zoo
Saaremaa Zoo started with the dream and dedication of two young people. It all started in March 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic changed our lives and work beyond recognition. As unemployed youth, we decided not to give up, but to start something completely new - discovering rural life and tidying up Risto's grandfather's home and sharing the whole journey through the YouTube channel - Risto Ränk Farming.
The initial plan was simple: live a real country life, on a real farm, give new life to an old and stagnant farm and share its progress through weekly videos.
In a short time, the YouTube channel gained great popularity, gathering thousands of viewers and supporters who shared our passion and interest in nature and animals.
Thanks to the support and growing interest, we decided to open our farm to guests in 2022, offering them the opportunity to experience the charms of rural life and our activities.
In 2024, we will start creating the Nature House of the Saaremaa Zoo.
In 2024, we will start creating the Nature House of the Saaremaa Zoo.
Opening of the Nature House Dec. 2024!
The purpose of Loodusmaja is to bring living in harmony with nature and animals closer to children and adults.
The project: The establishment of "Risto Ränk Farming Saaremaa Zoo's Nature House" has been financed as part of Leader MAK 2014-2020 measure 1.
